Ice saws
Ice saws should not be used to take the place of ice augers, but they can be used in conjunction with the augers to make sure that fishermen are able to reuse the holes they have opened up.
Ice saws are typically used for re-opening the holes in the ice that have started to close up a bit. This means that a person can leave his ice fishing shelter for a few days and come back to it a few days later and not worry about the holes becoming frozen again.
Although some ice will begin to build up, a person who has an ice saw is able cut through the ice fairly easily as long as he does not wait several days from the time he first cut pope the hole with an ice auger.
Ice saws are ideal for re-opening holes because they are easier to transport than augers. In fact, nearly all ice saws weigh less than 10 pounds. This means they are easy to transport and use.
Even though these saws are often used to make holes for ice fishing, their use does not need to be limited to fishing. There are some people who use them to take an annual dip in the icy water as part of a club or initiation.
Perhaps one of the main reasons why people often prefer using saws instead of gas augers is because there is no oil to deal with. Likewise, there is no gas smell. Last but not least, ice saws are lightweight and easy to transport from one place to the next. |
